How to Get Accepted into Google Adsense

Short of really getting started and writing articles, getting a Google Adsense account is the first big hurdle any publisher has to leap in order to start getting paid for the hard work you’re doing.

It can be, and has obviously been, very frustrating for many. I chose to write this article because I'm seeing so many new writers struggling to get on Adsense.

The questions are all over forums and all over the internet. This is difficult for everyone, but it doesn't have to be.

With a few simple rules and suggestions, hopefully, this article can ease some minds and give you hope that one day, you too will have an active Google Adsense account.

The first step among many is applying for Google Adsense. If you are a part of a publishing organization, like Hubpages, you will want to apply from your account with them rather than applying directly.

To start an application, you will need a valid Google email address that you have easy access to, because this will likely be a big part in your journey towards getting an account. In certain places, like India and China, you might have to wait up to 6 months before getting approved. They do this simply to protect the interests of the other publishers online.

You will want to have an active blog or website before applying. Usually this means you have at least 20 articles or blogs posted, or a complete website that has been active for at least a month.

One of the most critical aspects that Adsense will be looking for is original content (meaning that it cannot be copied or paraphrased from someone else’s work, or even your own from another place on the internet). If you do choose to quote someone else, make it obvious and include a reference or website for the work you borrowed.

Your work must also be interesting. If you are not getting any visitors, or Adsense does not think it will benefit from a relationship with you, you may not qualify. You can always visit tips for application success in order to really find out what makes for a successful application. More about that later.

Make sure your name, address, verified email address, and your personal url are correct the first time you fill out your application. Adsense gives you great directions in regards to how they want you to fill out your application right on the screen. They want you to be successful as well.

However, if you enter anything incorrectly, it is difficult to change it later. Pay attention as you sign up to make sure you are doing it correctly.

Google Adsense uses the Google email you provide to communicate with you about your published material, your account, and anything else.

This is your link with them. There is no other way to contact them, so make sure to check your email frequently. Read every email thoroughly and make sure to respond in a timely manner. This is an important relationship.

The very first email you should be receiving from them will be to verify your email address. They want to make sure that it was you who signed up for Google Adsense and that you truly are interested in being a member.

If you’re ever concerned that you have done something wrong or have violated any rules with Adsense, I promise they will contact you quickly and efficiently. Their reputation relies on the work that you publish, which is why there are such strict policies. Here is a full list of their policies.

If you get an email saying that you’ve got a violation, make sure to get to it immediately to avoid losing your account. Don’t worry. The violations are pretty common sense.

Your job is not over after you have submitted your application. Keep writing. They are looking for good, strong, quality content that will make it profitable for them to advertise with you. The best way to give it to them is to keep doing what you’re doing!

In the meantime, Google Adsense will then go through their review process to check that you are in line with their policies. If they find your work acceptable, they will send you an email to once again verify. If for some reason, you are not in compliance, this email will tell you so that you can go fix it and re-apply.

This process typically takes up to a week, but every time you have to re-apply, tack on another week for another review process. Do not worry if you have to re-apply several times. Persistence is the key here!

It is critical that you first go read the AdSense Terms and Conditions to make sure you are clear on what their rules actually are. I will describe a few of them below. They are pretty simple and easy to understand.

1) Obviously you will not get approved if your site contains adult, violent, or inappropriate content. This includes, but is not limited to, nudity, criminal behavior, gore, talk of violence, drugs, gangs, sex, racial slurs, vulgarity, profanity, abuse of any kind, any offensive material, and even gambling.

I think you get the point. If you have any doubts about whether something is appropriate or not, it’s probably not. They have to protect themselves and their customers.

2) You may not try and cheat your way to more views by the way of clicking on your own ads, paying others to click on your ads, or any other false way of trying to get paid more than you deserve.

3) You must write all original content. This should be obvious. You are not allowed to copy someone else’s creation (words, photos, or otherwise) and claim them as your own. Use only works that you are licensed or have permission to use, if you must, and give credit where it is deserved.

You are claiming that the work you are publishing is yours. Make sure it is or they will know. Evil laugh!

4) Create content that adds value to the information already available on the internet. Make sure that it’s “evergreen,” as said on Hubpages, which means that it will still be relevant in 5 years, 10 years and 20 years. Adsense has specific rules on what kind of content is acceptable and what isn’t.

5) Use spell and grammar check, for goodness sake! Your work reflects on you, that of your business, and/or the site that you are publishing on. Be professional and provide information people can actually read without being distracted by all of your spelling and grammar errors.

This also means write concisely. Say what you mean without repeating yourself excessively, throwing in random and/or irrelevant keywords, or packing your published content with code, links, or hidden messages.

6) Finally, and most obviously, do not mislead your readers. Do not send malware or other viruses to their computers, don’t initiate downloads without direct permission from users, don’t include pop-ups that keep them from reading your work, etc. Be honest with those you are writing for and don’t try to ruin their day.

Nobody likes this and it will most certainly get your account with Adsense denied or even terminated completely. If this happens, you cannot re-apply again.

If for some reason your site does not meet the guidelines at any time, and you do not respond or try and fix the issue in a reasonable amount of time, Adsense will remove it from their search index. Any and all ads will immediately be disabled, and you run the risk of permanently losing your account.

Congratulations! You’ve been approved! Exciting, I know! Now you can get paid for your work!
